Dot-Jobs
Thousands of Web sites list job openings, and most of them claim to be the best.
Just 13, however, have won a Users Choice Award four years running from Weddle’s, a company that produces guides and newsletters on Internet job searches.
Winners are chosen by an open vote among visitors to Weddle’s Web site over the year. Awards go to the top 30 vote-getters each year.
Eight general interest sites have made those lists each of the four years they have been compiled: Yahoo HotJobs, Monster.com, EmploymentGuide.com, CraigsList, CareerJournal, CareerBuilder.com and BestJobs USA.
The rest that share that winning streak are more specialized: ComputerJobs.com, ExecuNet, Jobsinthemoney.com (for financial types), DICE (for “tech insiders”), Net-Temps.com and VetJobs.
Choosing the right sites is just the start of using Web sites to get your dream job. Peter Weddle, chief executive of Weddle’s, suggests that online networking will bring you closer to the best jobs. Post regularly to career portals or professional association sites to share your expertise. “You have to give as good as you get,” he said.
